Chevrolet Captiva

A unique mix: the versatility of an SUV + the style and practicality of a family car.

The Captiva is designed to meet the needs of a demanding modern family. Available with 5 or 7 seats, it has versatile seating and storage solutions, a roomy cabin and is stacked standard features.

Chevrolet invented the SUV way back in 1935. And now, as the 21st century gathers momentum, it has reinvented it with the all-new Captiva.

On sale from this summer, the Captiva typifies all that’s great about Chevrolet. Value for money, expressive design and a family-friendly appeal underline the core values of the Chevrolet brand – values which stretch back thorough generations, and to every corner of the globe.

And talking of generations, Captiva is a new generation of Chevrolet. Built on global principles, in the way of all future Chevrolet models, Captiva has been designed from the outset to appeal in every market. Forget any imagery you may have of a gas-guzzling American truck. Captiva may have the chunky appeal and purposeful styling of the world’s best-loved SUV brand, but it also comes with a state-of-the-art, Euro 4 diesel powerplant, offering a great combination of fuel economy and refinement.

Captiva

As well as its incredible value, Captiva offers the option of seven seats – a package no other manufacturer can offer at this price level, and which makes Captiva a hugely desirable prospect for active families.

Car-like dynamics, a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes and either front or on demand all wheel drive mean there’s a Captiva to suit all driving styles or situations, either as a leisure vehicle, or as a larger, more spacious and more bold-looking alternative to a family saloon or MPV. Whatever it is you’re looking for, Captiva has what it takes to stick right in with your lifestyle.

And like Captiva, we’ve done our best to make the press pack highly a-peeling… We do hope you enjoy it as much as you enjoy the car.

Interior

Seven seats or five, the choice is yours. Whichever way, style and quality prevail…

If you need space for up to six passengers, you don't have to buy an MPV, nor do you need to fork out extra for an expensive premium 4x4.

As the best value seven-seat SUV on the market, Captiva successfully combines the appeal of both of these types of vehicle, meaning you don't need to sacrifice style just because you need the space.

What's more, the clever seating layout means that, when you don't have a bum for every seat, the two rearmost chairs fold flat into the floor at the pull of a lever, folding away with almost no effort to leave you with a completely flat, unencumbered load bay.

If you need even more luggage space, the second row of chairs and the passenger seat can also be folded flat, making room for a load of up to 270cm (or almost nine feet) in length, and a capacity of up to 1565 litres.

The loadspace is practical, too. The seats can be raised or lowered in a number of different configurations, while the tailgate features a smart opening rear window for depositing smaller loads. Five seat models, for those who don't need the extra seating, have a hidden storage compartment beneath the rear floor, perfect for keeping valuables out of the sight of prying eyes.

But it isn't just practicality with which Captiva appeals. Its cabin design is modern and stylish, and ushers in new levels of quality to Chevrolet's interior fit and finish. Soft-touch plastics, an integrated, flush-fitting stereo or infotainment system, trip computer (LTX trim) and standard air conditioning add further to its appeal, with high grade materials used throughout.

Depending on model, the interior also benefits from smart leather upholstery, electronic climate control and an electro-chromatic rear view mirror.

Comfort is a paramount consideration throughout. Shoulder and legroom in the front and middle row of seats is among the best in class, and in models so-equipped there's plenty of room for seven adults to travel in comfort.

Practical, comfortable, well-made and stylish – Captiva is the perfect flagship for the Chevrolet brand.

Engines and transmissions

Introducing Chevrolet's first ever diesel …

A choice of two Euro IV compliant engines is on offer in Captiva, kicking off with a 2.4-litre petrol engine producing 136PS.

Available in front-wheel-drive LS trim, the engine produces 220Nm of torque and is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox, with a combined fuel economy figure of a very respectable 31.7mpg. CO2 emissions for the petrol engine are 217g/km, while 0-60mph takes 11.5 seconds, with a top speed of 115mph where conditions allow.

But by far the most popular engine choice is expected to be Chevrolet's all-new 2.0-litre common-rail diesel. With On Demand All Wheel Drive as standard, and a choice of five-speed manual or automatic transmissions, the 150PS unit offers excellent refinement, performance and economy, along with an impressive torque output of 320Nm.

To further improve refinement, the engine has a sophisticated four-point neutral torque axis mounting, whereby the unit is supported on bearings, reducing vibration and noise, especially at idle.

The all-new unit uses a Bosch common-rail system which injects fuel into the combustion chambers at a pressure of up to 1,600bar. The unit features an alloy cylinder head and a variable geometry turbocharger, which allows excellent low down responsiveness and impressive in-gear acceleration.

The engine was developed by GM Powertrain at its facility in Gunsan, South Korea, where up to 250,000 engines per year can be built for global applications.

With a manual gearbox, 0-60mph takes 11.5 seconds and the top speed is 111mph. This configuration offers a CO2 output of 197g/km, along with a combined MPG figure of 37.1 on the combined cycle.

Auto models accelerate from 0-60mph in 12.2 seconds and have a top speed of 112mph. The combined MPG with an auto box is 32.8, with a CO2 output of 233g/km.

Safety

Because your family is your most precious cargo…

Captiva's advanced chassis design and clever ESP system are the first line of defence in any emergency situation, but if the worst should happen you can rest assured that it features a comprehensive range of passive safety features to further protect passengers.

The bodyshell itself is made from high strength, bake-hardened steel to offer a high level of accident protection, while the design of the structure is such that there are four integrated load paths, which divert the force of a frontal collision away from the car's cabin and into the side and cross-members. A further cross-member ahead of the instrument panel further absorbs crash energy, as well as reducing intrusion of the dashboard into the cabin.

Crumple zones all-round reduce crash energy, while one-piece mouldings for the front and rear bumpers mean that, in low-speed collisions, replacement parts costs are reduced.

Side impact bars reinforce both the front and rear doors, while the strength of the steel in the B-pillars varies at different heights, to tailor the direction in which the force of an impact moves, and add extra strength where needed.

Other safety features include airbags for both front seat passengers, along with curtain-shaped roof airbags and side airbags.

Whether you opt for five or seven seats, you get full three-point belts on each one, while the two outermost seats in the second row include Isofix attachments for the safe installation of compatible child seats, meaning that whether your family is young or old, Captiva is designed with them in mind.
