Hi, I have just signed up as a newbie and could do with some help......... My 2008 (May) 2litre Epica literally and dramatically blew up on the M25 just before Christmas. The mileage is just 38,000 and requires a major investment to get the car back on the road .The fault has been described by a local garage as follows; Major failure of the dual mass fly wheel / clutch unit which in failing hit the start motor and lifted the starter motor unit and causing starter motor housing, which is part of the engine block to be destroyed, and as a consequence of this the failure destroyed the gear box.T The car has a service history and did not show any signs of the problem prior to the explosion. I am out of warranty and neither Chevrolet nor Perry's will help with some costs to put the car back on the road , or at least give me something towards a down payment for a new vehicle. They argue (and they have a point) that by choosing to have it serviced by my local garage I have made any goodwill offer out of the question.I have shown them photographs of the damage. Am I being unreasonable in expecting some goodwill from Chevrolet's/Perry's ?: My local garage feel that it is very rare for a car of this age to be so badly damaged. I just wandered if any body may have some ideas before I decide to scrap the car.... I realise I am on difficult ground here, but with the cost of a replacement gearbox ,engine block, starter motor and clutch assembly at over £6000+ I am really struggling with this problem.
Regards,
David........ |

Sorry to hear your problem, that is 1. The downside of servicing outside the dealer network, and 2. The downside of a dual mass flywheel, it is also happening on vw/audis/skodas/seats and other makes too.
Although I like the economy of diesel, I think my next car will be a kia ceed with the 7 year warranty and a 1.4 or 1.6 petrol. I have seen an epica scrapped, accident, so maybe you can get the engine/gearbox from the breakers, there are various wbsites to find spares. Did you have any symptoms before it went? rattling, clutch problems etc... |
