From the maintanence manual;
 
Center Molding (Hatchback, S/Wagon)

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Pry off the center molding.
  3. Disconnect the mode control cable from the mode door.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  5. Remove the center molding

When it say pry off, my captiva had a couple of silver inserts either side of the radio- these needed to be pryed out- very carefully with plastic trim tools- I got mine from ebay. The panel is probably held in with little metal clips. Behind the panel, the rtadio is held in with 4 10mm bolts.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front, oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back. Horsepower is how fast you hit and torque is how far you send the wall.

   thanks iain as there is no problem with my unit i think i will leave well alone
 
   as it seems to be more trouble than its worth.
