Lacetti Sport

A refreshing alternative in a ‘busy' market sector

Packaged with Chevrolet's industry-leading Chevrolet complete care programme of free service, warranty and AA Total recovery, Lacetti is a refreshing alternative in the value segment of the compact sector. It is Chevrolet's model competing head-on in the C segment, which caters for a quarter of the UK passenger car market.

The Lacetti five-door's clean-cut lines were styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro and this front wheel-drive compact family hatchback was developed with safety, space and comfort as its key design features. The Lacetti five-door will enter Chevrolet showrooms with a choice of either a 1.4 litre (93 Ps),1.6 litre (109 Ps) or 1.8 litre (122Ps) engine.

Uncomplicated line-up with comprehensive standard equipment

The Lacetti five-door model line up comprises just three derivatives. It is uncomplicated and fully equipped as standard, leaving little to be desired. The three derivatives are – 1.4SE and 1.6SX – with the 1.8 litre Lacetti Sport flagship completing the range. Even in the entry-level 1.4SE model, the specification includes power steering, ABS, dual front airbags, central door locking, electric front windows, a remote release for the boot, height-adjustable driver's seat and adjustable steering wheel rake.

Above the 1.4SE is the 1.6SX, which has air conditioning, side airbags, alloy wheels, rake and reach adjustment for the steering column, keyless entry for the central door locking, powered and heated door mirrors and electric windows all-round. The steering wheel and gear knob are leather-covered and exterior door handles and bodyside mouldings are colour-keyed.

Both derivatives feature a Blaupunkt single CD player as standard and, new to this market sector, a DAB digital radio, single CD player as an option. Six speakers for exceptional sound quality, along with steering wheel audio controls, are standard on the 1.6SX.

Personality - by design

The Chevrolet Lacetti's modern style was created by Italdesign, the famous Turin studio founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro. This talented team was also responsible for the styling of the Matiz and Kalos. Today's Chevrolet range consists of modern cars with character and personality, manufactured to high levels of quality in some of the world's most advanced car manufacturing facilities.

Almond-shaped, clear-acrylic headlamps and a new, contemporary front grille design with the brand emblem integrated into a horizontal chrome feature line, dominate the front view of Lacetti. The long wheelbase with short overhangs, the bold wheel arches and the belt-line rising toward the rear combine to create a dynamic side view. The Lacetti's muscular shoulder line extends into a rear design with eye-catching, wrap-around light units and a strong character line below the rear window.

Lacetti – the customer

Customers for Lacetti will predominantly be growing young families with an eye for style, but they are also looking for value in both the car and the ownership experience. With its strong personality and high specification level coupled to Chevrolet's complete care package, Lacetti is particularly suited to those people who don't want to follow the crowd and are looking for a value alternative without compromising good looks and practicality.

Lacetti five-door – most spacious hatchback in its class

The elegant, eye-catching design and attention to detail ensures that Lacetti stands out from the crowd. With the addition of European chassis development honed in thousands of miles of testing on UK roads, Lacetti adds superb refinement and ride quality for five passengers in style. Another key feature that makes the inside of Lacetti so appealing is its roomy package – the most spacious in its class. At 4,295 mm, the car is one of the longest in its class and with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, maximises interior space – particularly for the rear passengers.

Comprehensive safety package and great strength

Safety is not compromised, in fact quite the opposite with driver and passenger airbags as standard, five three-point safety belts with belt force limiters at all five positions, each with a height-adjustable head restraint. ISOFIX fittings are standard on the outer seats of the rear bench for the attachment of a convenient ISOFIX child seat (an approved seat will be available later). The 1.6 SX adds side airbags at the front. The reason for the car's comparatively low weight despite its high torsional rigidity and comprehensive crash stability, is the large percentage of high-strength and extra high-strength steel in the Lacetti. These account for 40 percent of the body shell and play a key role in the high stability of the passenger compartment.

Three engines in three trim levels – an easy choice

Three engines are available in Lacetti - all 16 valve four-cylinder units and all refined and efficient. The 1.4 litre variant powers the 1.4SE derivative, the 1.6 unit, the 1.6SX and the 1.8 in the range flagship, Lacetti Sport. With the 1.4 engine, the Lacetti has a top speed of 108 mph and takes 11.6 sec to accelerate from 0-62 mph. Offering good flexibility, the four-cylinder engine – which, like its big brother, is Euro 3 compliant – delivers 39.8 mpg (MVEG combined cycle). With its five-speed gearbox, the Lacetti 1.6SX accelerates from 0-60 mph in 10.7 seconds and has a top speed of 116 mph. Fuel consumption is still a moderate 39.8 mpg (MVEG combined cycle). This engine can also be mated to an Aisin four-speed automatic gearbox. 0-62 mph is reached in 11.5 seconds with the auto, which goes on to a top speed of 109 mph. Fuel consumption is 34.9 mpg on the combined cycle.

UK development programme ensures excellent ride and handling

The new Lacetti features McPherson struts with gas-pressure shock absorbers on all four wheels. A suspension arm at the front and two additional wishbones and a trailing arm at the rear ensure precise wheel control. Sophisticated rubber bearings minimise the transmission of vibration and noise from the suspension to the body.

Well dimensioned cross members also make a significant contribution to enhancing comfort and the car has standard anti-roll bars on both axles. UK and European models of Lacetti have approximately ten percent higher spring rates and stiffer dampers than their Korean counterparts. The anti-roll bars have also been modified and now have a diameter of 18 millimetres at the front (Korea: 19 mm) and 11 millimetres at the rear (Korea: 14 mm) These modifications ensure that the new set-up provides increased lateral stability and significantly less roll, for rapid progress on winding country roads.

Chevrolet's complete care package – cost effective ownership

Like the rest of the Chevrolet range, Lacetti five-door models benefit from Chevrolet’s complete care package, with three years free servicing, comprehensive warranty and AA Total recovery service.  The Chevrolet range is available throughout the UK from nearly 90 retailers.
