Volt – say goodbye to “range anxiety”
With most of the electric cars on the market today, you have to keep watching the charge indicator, because once the battery’s energy is depleted, that’s it. And you may not be near a re-charging point when that happens.
The Volt is different.
Its liquid-cooled battery is backed by an on-board 1.4L petrol generator that can sustain the charge of the battery while you drive to extend the range to more than 370 miles.
Here’s how it works. Plug it into a standard 230V outlet, let it charge for around three hours and then it’s ready for up to 50 emission-free miles. After that, the Volt – and more importantly you – can keep on going thanks to the on-board, range-extending generator.
Efficient handling and innovation
The Volt is packed with innovation. Here are just some of the technological features which set it apart.

Four different driving modes modes allow the Volt to adapt to you and your driving needs:
- Normal – the mode you’ll use most of the time
- Sport – the mode for a more robust driving style
- Mountain – when you’re in extremely hilly areas, this mode optimises the driving experience accordingly
- Hold – this mode, designed specifically for Europe, allows you to operate in extended-range mode and hold the battery’s charge so you can decide when you need to run at 0 emissions.
The Volt uses regenerative braking which allows the car to recapture energy while it’s in motion, boosting the duration of the battery charge and, in turn, the car’s range.
Volt – interior comfort, equipment and safety
On the inside, the Volt exceeds expectations of space, comfort, convenience and equipment. A high-tech infotainment system on the centre console is one of the highlights but here is a fuller picture:
- High resolution 7”colour, reconfigurable LCD instrument cluster
- Navigation radio with 60GB hard disk drive with DVD, MP3 playback, music/movie/media storage and RDS available
- Bluetooth music streaming and hands-free phone operation
- Bose high-efficiency stereo designed specifically for Volt to deliver the kind of world-class audio-acoustics expected from Bose, with minimum energy consumption, 6 speakers and subwoofer
- Keyless ignition with intuitive pulsating power button and audio feedback/chirp
- Automatic climate control with humidity sensor
- Remote vehicle starter system to allow for a pre-cooled or pre-heated cabin (including the heated seats)
The Volt protects its passengers.
