Been trying to get the issues with my sat nav unit
resolved for past eleven months. Chevy has admitted there is a problem with
these units and have recently introduced an upgrade for the software which they
claim fixes all of the problems. Made no difference to mine and am still trying
to get the unit fixed. I also wish I had not purchased the LTZ.

Interesting to hear about peoples issues with the sat nav on the LTZ - have also noticed that it appears that there are many more LTZ owners than LT owners on this forum, and seemingly no LS owners.
When I bought my LT I never really considered the LTZ purely on the price offer that was available at the time, but essentially on list the difference is £2k. However, since people's gripes over the sat nav I have been thinking about what do you really get extra for your money.

An extra Z on your tailgate!
Sat Nav of course. I don't do many long journeys but am happy with the Sat Nav on my phone when I am going somewhere I don't know. Just whack it on when I get close, and it hasn't failed me yet.
Full leather seats against partial leather - i test drove an LTZ and actually think the part leather seats look really nice against the full leather, but I suppose thats personal preference. I've never been a leather furniture man and have never even owned a leather jacket!
Reversing camera - i found it rather spooky when I used it on test drive and felt uncomfortable about relying on it with the scaling issues, but I guess that is something you get used to in time.
Wider wheels - doesn't bother me and not sure it makes alot of difference to grip, handling, ride etc...

Wondering what other people think? I'm probably biased with the above opinions and am probably trying to justify the car I bought, but is the extra £2k worth it on list?

Leather is cold in winter and sticky in summer, but still went for it because it ismore grandchild and dog hairresistant, also my heated seats are still cold when you first sit on them and warm up after your bum has already done the job.

I've never had a problem with my Sat-Nav although it is not as intuitive on picking best route as some of the better known mobile apps. The MP3 and SD-Card is excellent though, not many cars have that option and it leaves the USB free for charging phone or other devices.

I prefer leather as it is easier to keep clean, especially with kids and dog.

Difference in price for leasing was not that much either.

So the resolution to this was for me to go to motrocode.co.uk, and to get an intervention with Chevrolet (GM). This was successful and they agreed tocannibalise another newly delivered LTZ and give me the unit.

Note new firmware out with maps in july so ask for your upgrade.

ok so the saga continues, it may be that there is a significant issue for Chevrolet, i have managed to totally fry 2 x ltz sat navs now. it is horrible to watch.

Basically if you ask it to navigate to Messange in acquitaine in southern france which is where i regularly travel to, the unit will freeze on the last square before timing out after 7 or 8 minutes.

this is if you are uk based by the way. You eventually get a white screen saying out of resources, please press ok to continue. This happens about 5-6 times, and after the 6th time, we get a windows error message saying turbodog.exe unexpectedly terminated and thats it, satnav dead.

the dealer cant fix, its a dead unit, my 2nd one now ... Chevrolet uk are coming to see me shortly and to see this in action. Effectively the unit doesnt like crossing the channel and travelling a long way south and ends up deadening itself.

all functions and features overlap, ie menu screens overlap, reversing camera stops, and then strange displays start appearing including windows boot up screens, inverted upside down chevrolet image, and more .... weird ...

help

Finding this really fascinating...

xjc, have you got any video of this you can put on YouTube and post a link, or photos...

Is it really showing a MS Windows boot up screen, or is that your interpretation. If so, what version of Windows have their used. If so, it is likely to be Windows CE, as this was a "cut down" version, Microsoft developed to take to the portable hand held computer battle. And although quite good at the time, it didn't move with the times and became outdated quite quickly and was, how do I say it.. RUBBISH.

They skipped that market then for quite some time, until they developed the Windows phone, which is also, well not an iPhone or even as good as Android. They are now trying again, with Windows 8, which they say will be the same on Desktops as Tablet computers.... Yeah!!!!

Anyway, if the SatNav is built on basically a Windows platform, then it looks like the Chevy implementation of the thier media centre, ie, SatNav, Reverse Camera, Media Player, etc., is no more than a re-badge of the Chinese devices sold on eBay as replacement Head Units.

If that is the case, no wonder it cant cope....

What a con..... Chevrolet, you should be ashamed....

Wonder what version their British sister company have put in the Antara ?

Interesting, exactly as mine are:

H/W: 0.23CDaE S/W: 0.75S
O/S: 0.23CH_EN GPS: 1.02.
Do Chevrolet publish updates, or do we have to find out about them somehow ??

I had a similar issue when trying to navigate from my home in the UK to a location in France.

In and around the UK it's fine and when it France it's fine, but it seems it doesn't like the water in between.

My unit never died though, just failed to navigate.

Is there a separate GPS device that needs replacing ??

DO you have any extras installed that could affect it, or do you have a GPS-enabled phone in the car when you are trying to navigate, not that it should make a difference.

It's probably Windows CE, as that's what most of the "TURBODOG" GPS systems run under, although you should never see it.

I know (well suspect) that to be the case.

Turbodog GPS... says it all.

To put this into context. Next time you are in ALDI and you see a cheap portable SatNav for less than £100, then the SatNav s/w on that is most likely to be Turbodog.

Or in other words, Chevrolet have bought a cheap "Chinese" component and fit it to thier cars at an optional extra price of £1000s...

Its basically rubbish...

So sorry to break the news to you guys out there who have these units, but they are never going to be up to much, and I think you need to start using them with kid gloves. ie. Put the route to dover, cross the channel then put in the route to somewhere in France.

I reckon, the problem is when trying to navigate outside the current country. The s/w cant cope. I recokon you would have the same problem if in France and you entered a destiniation in Germany, no matter how far you are from the border.

Its not your fault... Its Chevrolet using cheap rubbish components... An absolute disgrace.

Well, here goes, Will Chevrolet care? Contentious I know, but had a discussion with one of their charming people about dealers having no service parts in stock in lots of places, (i can personally name some) and the reply was OH REALLY?Most of us on here can ask about bits that fit, and you can get yr captiva filters from a vauxhall dealer cheaper, so why not. (same gm part number no D prefix) If Chevrolet don't care, why should we! I like the cruze i have now, instead of the epica, but as it is petrol it will require a whole lot less servicing, and there is a vauxhall dealer close by who gives me a good deal on servicing, (it's an astra in drag) so that's the way i'll go. When the car gets to 3 years old, it'll go, as usual...

Well just taking the first video. The fact that Chevrolet is "backwards" (mirror image or maybe upside down) doesnt bode well.... What did the dealer say about that ...

Cant play the video's, hanging my pc. May have better luck later on a different PC.

But just steping through, the Video Playback (Codec issue) isnt uncommon. You are trying to play a media file which is not compatible with the version of the media player on the device. This is a very common problem accross PCs. Not all videos are playable on all formats, as you would be aware if you buy a new iPad and try playing BBC Website or any other Flash content.

As for the fatal app error, looks like the TurboDog app is corrupt. Any number of reasons could have caused this, but the only way that will be fixed is by a reinstallation of the app. Which I suspect is only possible by the dealer. Which shouldnt be, as if it is a Win CE device (which it is) then anyone should be able to hook it up to a computer and reinstall. Mind you allowing that functionality would give Chevy some warranty issues...

The device looks really nice, but as I suspected, it is just one of these "chinese" units, with a different case to look a little more expensive.

Insist Chevy change it...
