Hi everyone,

I am planning to change the size of my tyres on my 20" alloy wheels from 245/40 to 255/45. I know that this will affect speedo but because it is more wider by 10 mm, will this hit the inner side walls of the wheel arch when you do a full turn. It is quite bumpy on 40 series so just thinking of upgrading it to 45 series.

Hi Iceman,

I have 235/60/18 on my car- the clearances are tight but okay- no rubbing either on or off lock and these actually come out at 1mm larger in diameter that your 255/45/20's. That said, the limiting factor that I found was the proximity of the bottom spring seat on the strut to the inner sidewall of the tyre. Your extra wheel width might be an issue, although as the wheels are staying it's not likely to be crucial.
