OK, so my usually 100% reliable Aveo came back out of lockdown a month or so ago, and is back to its normal 260 mile weekly commute and some running about in between. The last two times, on the motorway at 60+, the ABS light has come on, stayed on after a restart, and then, after the next restart, has gone away, not to return until the following week.

Not been able to read any codes, and the fluid is at normal level, having been changed recently.

The most I have ever done on an ABS system is change a sensor, so any pointers welcome.
MOT is next week, so hopefully on one of the days it has gone away.

Metro, I'd start with the possibility of corroded contacts in the terminal connector block somewhere behind or above the wheel arch. Having been laid up terminal corrosion is the most likely.
