I have a captiva 2012 owned it 7 months and the same bad smell has developed over the last week. It only smells when the the fans are on. Not sure if it's the air filter on top of engine or internal cabin air filter. Is it too young to have catalytic converter or radiator problems? Going for it's yearly service in three weeks. Would like to know know what I'm talking about. Can anyone offer advice.
Zelda, bad smell along with high fan revs is fairly typical of DPF (diesel particulate filter) regeneration in progress. Lots of previous posts on the forum on this subject. Have a look through using the 'search' function.
