Hi all,

I hope someone can help me. My Captiva suddenly stopped working. It won't start, the engine doesn't crank or try to turn over. I have replaced the Battery, Starter Motor, checked cable to starter motor (no damage). Has anyone faced this issue before?

Dash lights comes on, radio comes on, camera comes on when put in Reverse but the moment you turn the key, NOTHING, not a sound. :( I am desperate.

Have you checked

(1) the fuse for the starter relay and/or

(2) the relay itself?

(3) the clutch switch (if it's manual transmission).

Hi Victor,
Yes we checked the relays,
Swapped starter relay with defog relay. Didn’t work, took the main fusebox apart to check for any lose connections, all seems pretty good. I’m baffled by this issue! ?

Sounds like no signal from key to instruct start recognition sequence or a defect in ignition. Do you have another key?
Has the battery recently been changed and connected poles incorrectly?

Hi Ed,

I have tried the spare key and no luck. Battery has been connected properly. I get dashboard lights, radio, reverse camera. All that comes on!

I'm suspecting BCM or ECM (ECU) is not reacting to signal from ignition. If immobiliser is not getting release signal then cranking will not happen. Have you obtained any DTCodes?

Hi all,

I had an electrical specialist look at the car and it turned out that the BRAND NEW battery didn’t have enough charge to turn the engine on. It was showing only 11.6v and minimal requirement is 12-12.5v! I have logged a complaint with Halford for selling a low battery, hopefully I can get some money back.

Calvin, I'm puzzled by your question because the answer appears to be given in the last post where Banze said :-
