I have an issue with multimedia system on 2010 captiva ltz. Screen shows chevrolet badge for a few secs then a page displaying windows files control panel etc for 15 seconds and the goes round in this cycle. Efforts at resetting etc have failed so has anyone experienced this before? Failing this, does anyone know if I can simply replace this with the DIC from lower spec model so at least i have the climate control and fuel information available?

Tom, The Captiva DIC/Mutimedia has more posts than virtually any other, mostly it has to be said on the Series 2 but the Series 1 Captiva has its fair share also.
The Topic captions span dozens of titles including fitting of alternative components.

You best approach is to use the Forum Back Index Search function and start reading........ it will take you days to read them all.
By entering slightly different wording in the Search function you'll have another batch of discussions each time you search because entries were under so many Topic captioned titles.

How to find and use the Search function can be read in the following link which also explains how to complete your Membership Sign-Up & vehicle data sections neither of which you completed on original Sign-Up .

Ok obviously my search of the forum was not successful in getting the answer I needed, hence creating this thread, so hopefully someone can actually answer my question.

Tom, You did well to read up on about 10+ years worth of discussions on this topic and its associated entries. You will therefore have read that it is a bit of a mine field and many attempts at replacing even the entire unit have not gone smoothly, so integration of different parts may be equally if not more challenging. The nearest existing post I can see to your question is here :- Head Unit and Display Change It might be worth contacting member Serge and / or Spyder and seeing what their views are. Spyder in particular is very savvy on this sort of issue. The other alternative is of course to consult your nearest vehicle audio/multimedia specialists and see what their suggestions are. Online sites like AliExpress have numerous offerings and may be worth exploring.

Hi Tom,
I have no answers, in fact I'm in search of the same fix for the exact same fault. Mine is the 2012 LTZ, the issue began 5 weeks ago. Can I ask what happened when your problem started?
Mine was working perfectly fine until I got home. Popped her in reverse and the reverse camera on the display flicked on and off like it was trying to engage. She went blank and the same cycle as you describe has been happening ever since.

HM, Welcome to the Forum.
The DIC/Multimedia situation ranks in the 'top three' of most asked posts covering everything from total failure (as occurred with mine) to partial failure, or other inexplicable gremlins. Overall dissatisfaction, plus the fact that Chevrolet/GM no longer offer Sat Nav mapping updates, has resulted in so many owners attempting to replace the entire unit.
There are about ten years worth of topic discussions (under many different titles) which may be worth reading up via the Forum Search function.

Sadly Tom had failed to find a 'reset' fix for his unit in his Series 1 Captiva and hence he was exploring replacing his unit.

How to use the Forum Back Index Search function, along with other useful information such as completing your Sign-Up World location (believed to be UK?) and adding your vehicle details to your Footer can be found in the following link:- Helpful Guidance Using the Forum

Unfortunately mine was like that when I bought it so no idea what occurred before it. I think my only option is to remove it because when the files page shows its so bright it makes driving at night dangerous. Not even my tech savvy bloke at work can figure out any rectification suggestions

Hi Aussie Ed,

I was determined to find a fix but I'm not feeling so optimistic anymore. I will have a search as you have suggested, thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Oh dear :(
Thank you for coming back to me
