has anybody suffered this problem? this happend to me last sunday.i noticed that the dash lights and interior light were on dim when i was outside the car. opened the door and they all went off. closed the door and they all came back on again. turn the key and they all glow brightly. switch off and take the key out and it happens again. i drove round to my local b+q and switched off, took the key out and the engine carried on running!

called the AA and he spent about 1and a half hours trying to find an earth fault and although he couldn't find it he narrowed it down to a problem with the interior lights. he removed fuse 19 and apart from the fact that i now have no interior lightsthe car runs fine. when i switch on the pointers on the dashshoot over to the right then drop back again. when ipress the key fob to lock the car the indicators flash and it locks. when i unlock it on the fob it unlocks but the indicators don't flash

somebody said it could bea fault with the alternator. if it is and is a part that can be replaced i'll get it but if the alternator needs replacing to rectify the fault i'll make do without the interior lights and put up with the other weird problems.

Why not give the old USA a try on their Suzuki website.

Loads of info and the Forenza is the same car !!

Just google Suzuki Forums and select the Forenza part.

Hello, I bought our Lacetti on Wednesday this week, and we too have experienced exactly the same problem. However, in addition, we've also got a lot of water under the carpets, and we thought that there had been a leak somewhere - perhaps via a window seal?

We had to call the RAC, as we couldn't start the engine with the driver's door closed, but when it was open, the car started.

We had the same problem where if we had the engine running and took the keys out of the ignition, the engine continued to run!
The moment you opened the door, the engine would stop!

The RAC man tooka look at all the earth connections, and electrical components that he could see, and couldn't see anything wrong with them. Then, he lifted the carpets, and looked for cabling under the seats, and noticed that there was lots of water under the carpets! The car base was soaking. He thought that water had entered the car somehow - perhaps via window seals or doors? Then, it was assumed that water had been the cause of these electrical problems.

So. With the keys removed from the ignition, and the driver door closed, the dash lights come on at half brightness, as if there's a dodgy connection. This takes power, so unless I want a flat battery, I have to disconnect it.

So. My first question is this. Did you have water problems like mine? If not, then mine are obviously two separate issues.

I can't see how the alternator would be at fault, as the problem happens when the engine isn't running.

It's booked in to see a Chevrolet dealer tomorrow, as it's specialist electrical diagnostics that I need, opposed to a normal grease monkey scratching his head. I can't go on with this problem.

Thanks.

hi, there seems to be a common fault somewhere. firstly i never had problems with the water issues but it all happened when it had snowed. the aa man that attended took out fuse 19 in the main fuse box which stopped the interior lights coming on and this extinguished the dim dash lights when the door was shut,. thus preventing the battery from going flat.i tried replacing the fuse from time to time but it was a couple of months later when i replaced the fuse that everything went back to normal again. i don't know why it all happened but it must be to do with dampness somewhere.

firstly i think i'd be more worried about where the water had come in from. was a window left open and it got soaked inside before you bought the car? i think you need to thoroughly dry it out first and make sure that any electrical connections under the carpets and not corroded. i hope you get it sorted out at the garage and find out what had caused the problem. if you do, post it on here so we can all be a bit wiser. good luck

if you don't get much info on this site i'd try the daewoo forum. it has sub sections for different cars and there seems to be a bit more input there.

Well,I took it to the garage, and I have to say I wish I hadn't! There's all sorts wrong with it.

It's been in a smash at some point in its life, so that could explain the water, but that's not all.

There's loads of body work required, which are needed to prevent leaks and problems in the gear box, steering and other components.

I've had my fingers burned, so won't be buying on-line again!

If I ever cobble the funds together, we'll get it fixed.

Cheers,

Mike

real sorry to hear that mike. is there no way you can get back to the seller and put all your evidence in front of them and demand your money back? after all if it was ebay i would say that the vehicle is not as was listed. good luck

Ok. It seems to be ok (fingers crossed). My local garage thought it could be the ignition barrell, so changed it and that didn't work. Then, he looked at the wiring of the car stereo, and said that had been incorrectly wired, meaning that the live wire wasn't in the right place, thus resulting in a short between the battery and the stereo. Aparently the dash controls are somehow linked, so he fixed that, and it's been fine since (again... Fingers crossed).

Have you changed your car audio system lately?

Well, no sooner did I say that, it's started again!!

I really hate intermittant problems. As when I take the car somewhere and the engineer says 'what's the problem', I could scream, as the journey fixed the issue!

Then, when I get home, it starts again!

All this rubbish about them having to see the fault when it's happening is doing me in! Why can't they just to a process of ilimination, to re-create the fault?
