Hmm interesting. Servicing costs?
I was thinking that too - servicing & repairs. When it goes, a clutch + dual-mass flywheel on a diesel can be mind-meltingly expensive...

Hi Gaston,

I would guess that dual mass flywheels would be expensive on petrol engines as well. But I was thinking of the normal yearly service that I would expect to be cheaper on a diesel - no spark plugs to changefor a start

Cheers

I thought DMFs were only fitted to diesels (to dampen vibration). I could be wrong though.

Fair point about servicing, although I really don't know how much of a cost difference there'd be between comparable petrol & diesel models.

With DPFs and specialist oils balancing out the spark plugs, I doubt there's much difference. The majority of the charge is labour in any case. Dual mass flywheels i think are on both petrol and diesel these days , but I could be wrong.
