After having a problem with my brakes sticking on last week and the RAC saying the problem was the little rubber sleeve that goes on the brake slider pin, he took it off so I could get home and I bought a new one off EBay. However it doesn’t seem to want to fit on properly as if it’s slightly too big. Has anybody else ever had a problem with this? Do you know where I could buy genuine ones from and not patent part? What job does this rubber actually do? Would it hurt to leave it off forever!

The rubber sleeves or bellows should be a loose fit over the guide pins but a tight fit over the ends where they need stretched into place. Don't know where you can buy genuine new ones other than the dealers but you can't do without them, the slider joint would soon corrode up and seize.
